Lavi, Nissim


Son of Rachel and Shimon, was born on September 15, 1914 in Hebron and from there moved to Jerusalem. He had a high school education and a profession – drawing, sculpture and painting. In 1939, at the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the British Army and participated in battles in Africa and Italy. During his stay in Italy he was sent by his superiors, who recognized his artistic talents, to study at the Art Academy in Venice. Often asked for an original way of art and many attempts. He tended to follow modern art. After six years of service, he returned to Israel and worked as a clerk and sketched in the Jerusalem Post. Upon the outbreak of the War of Independence, he joined the Jerusalem Brigade and in the Battle of Ein Karem fell, on the 12th of Tammuz 5708 (12 July 1948.) He was buried in Sheikh Bader A.
