Laor (Langfuss), Shimon

Son of Hinda and Chaim David. Born in 1903 in Lublin, Poland, where he graduated from high school and studied accounting, he was active in Hashomer Hatza’ir and concentrated the local branch, and in 1927 he immigrated to Eretz Israel. He lived in the Karkur group and in several moshavot in the south, and continued his training activities in Hashomer Hatza’ir, and during his work he suffered from severe malaria and, according to the recommendation of his doctors, was forced to leave the country and returned to his parents’ home in Lublin. When World War II broke out he fled to Russia and in 1943 he returned to Eretz Israel and joined Ein Shemer. From the “Hashomer Hatzair” kibbutzim, where he volunteered for the British army fighting the Nazis and later took part in battles in Europe during the period of his service in the British Army, maintaining contact with friends from his kibbutz and keeping abreast of what was happening on the kibbutz and in Israel. On 18 Adar, February 19, 1946, when he returned to his unit on one of his vacations, he was injured in a road accident on the Rishon Lezion highway – Nes Tziona and died a few hours later. He is buried in the Kibbutz Ein Shemer cemetery.
