Lans, Ofer


Ofer, son of Ruth and Dan, was born on January 7, 1949, in Kibbutz Beit Alpha, where he completed his elementary studies at the kibbutz school, and later graduated from the Beit Alpha educational institution. “Hashomer Hatzair” was an active member of the kibbutz, and from an early age he had a strong love for animals, which was expressed in collecting animals and building various facilities for their living quarters. Throughout his service, Ofer was considered an outstanding soldier and a talented commander, and therefore his commanders saw a need to persuade him to go to an officers’ course and serve in the IDF as an officer, even though he did not want to, and preferred to return quickly to his kibbutz and civilian life. He returned to Kibbutz Beit Alpha and returned to work in the aquaculture industry where he worked before leaving for military service.
