Landerer, Shai

Son of Yonah and Dov, was born on 17.4.1962 in Givatayim. When he was 3 years old, the family moved to Holon, where Shai attended the Shalom Aleichem elementary school and the ORT school in mechanics. In addition, Shai studied guitar and singing and devoted all his spare time to them. Prior to his induction into the army, Shai joined the Nahal Brigade, which was organized in Kibbutz Harel. His friends in the nucleus told him: “He was a shayke of guitar and songs, and we called him the whispering giant, because he was tall, quiet, sensitive and gentle. In January 1981 Shai joined the IDF and served in the Nahal paramilitary brigade. He had undergone a course for combat medics because he was convinced that as a medic he could contribute his special qualities. Shortly before the outbreak of the Lebanon War, Shai wrote to his girlfriend: “I am thinking about the sun, thinking about flowers, thinking about the nature that exists, thinking about the good and wanting it so much … I do not want to hurt, It simply will not lead us anywhere. ” On the fourth day of the war, 18 June 1982, his unit fought in Ein Zahlata. An armored unit tank was hit by Syrian fire, and killed and wounded. In the rescue attempt, the company commander and another soldier were injured. Shai came to their aid under enemy fire, and was also hit by Syrian ambush. Being wounded, he tried to extricate himself backwards, then was hit again and killed. He was 20 years old. Shai was buried in the military cemetery in Holon, where he left behind parents and two sisters, and commanders told me about Shai, who was a very devoted medic, one of the best soldiers in the group, a company and a battalion. , And one of the mainstays of the core: Shai left two cassettes with songs he composed, sang and played, and his family published them on a double record album
