Landau, Yechezkel Emil


Son of Chaya Yisske Idel and Simcha Bunem Meir, grandson of the Admor Rabbi Ze’ev Wolf of Strykov, was born on October 24, 1909, in a small town in southern Germany. In the days of his youth he studied Torah, then chose a working life and worked in the cheese industry, a profession that was common to the family. In 1934 he left his parents’ home and immigrated to Eretz Israel. In 1935 he married and had a son and a daughter, and the family lived in Jerusalem in the Kerem Avraham neighborhood. He worked as a guard in the Haganah and was a member of Hapoel Hamizrahi, and worked as a driver in the Berman bakery. On 6 Shvat, 26.1.1939, was shot and seriously wounded by an Arab assassin at the gates of the Yemin Moshe neighborhood. He managed to chase the assassin until he fell to the ground. Two days later, on 8 Shvat, 28 January 1939, he died of his wounds at the Hadassah Hospital at the age of 29. He was brought to eternal rest on the Mount of Olives, and a large crowd accompanied him on his last journey, leaving a wife and two children.
