Landau, Aryeh


Aryeh, son of Faigel and Moshe Landau, was born in 1928 in the city of Kalwaria, Poland. He was a member of the Hanoar Hazioni Movement and a plumber by profession. Upon his liberation from the camps he was among the illegal immigrants on the ship “La Spezia” who arrived in Israel in 1946. Aryeh lived in Tel Aviv and joined the Hanoar Hazioni Movement in Israel and was an enthusiastic member of Haganah. With the outbreak of the War of Independence Aryeh enlisted and went to battle. He was wounded three times and every time he returned to his service with full energy as soon as he recovered. Aryeh was among the conquerors of Mount Castel, Lod and Beit-Nabala. Aryeh completed a course for machine-gunners and joined the maneuvers held in the Galilee. In this operation, Aryeh was wounded and transferred to a hospital in Haifa where he died on the 6th of Tishrai, October 9, 1948. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
