Laharas, Dr. Hugo

Son of Lina and Joseph, was born on June 10, 1904 in Berlin, the capital of Germany. He was a member of the Blau – Weiss youth movement in Germany and his group leader. Hugo studied medicine in Berlin and Freiburg and during his studies belonged to a student association in Germany. After completing his studies he worked as a doctor in Hamburg. In 1933 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Safed, where he joined the Haganah. During the bloody riots of 1936-1939 he was very active in it. In time he moved to the medical service of the Mandatory government and was appointed a doctor at the Tel Aviv port immediately after he was built; He then worked in government hospitals in Jaffa and Jerusalem. In 1945 he was appointed director of the government hospital in Beit Safafa in Jerusalem. When the War of Independence broke out following the UN General Assembly resolution of 29 November 1947, the Haganah ordered the partition and remained in the government hospital in Beit Safafa, Surrounded by Arabs. On December 28, 1947) was killed by Arab murderers in front of his aides in the hospital. He was buried on the Mount of Olives. His name was engraved on the monument erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in memory of those who perished in the Jewish Quarter and the memory of soldiers who fell in the battle for Jerusalem and were buried on the Mount of Olives.
