Lacher, Yaakov-David


Was born on January 1, 1899 in Warsaw, Poland. He immigrated to Israel in 1924. A year later, he returned to the Diaspora to bring his entire family, parents and brothers, to Israel. Yaakov-David stayed there until 1933. His second immigration was “illegal” and on his way he passed the countries of South-Eastern Europe, Turkey and Syria and came to Israel. He volunteered for the War of Independence as one of the veterans. He was 49 years old in May 1948 and insisted that he join the combat unit. As a soldier in the Givati ​​Brigade, Yaakov-David took part in a counterattack to conquer Nitzanim and in the Battle of Ibdis he fought in the “Yoav” operation and the occupation of the Hulikat outposts. Yaakov-David participated in the attack on the Egyptian “Burma Road” outposts, in order to tighten the siege on the “Faluja pocket”. He fell in an assault on Regiment 7, on the first of Heshvon, (3.11.1948). He was laid to rest at the Warburg military cemetery. He left behind a wife and two children.
