Kutai, John

Yochanan, son of Yocheved and Zachai, was born on January 4, 1953, in Tel Aviv. He studied at the Bar Giora Elementary School and at the Shevach High School in Tel Aviv, and during his spare time played soccer. Yohanan was a shy boy, humble and modest. His teachers and friends, who used to call him “Yochka”, loved him in school. His teacher Zehava related: “The first time I asked him his name, Yozhka answered me, and immediately corrected himself and said,” Yochanan, there was always shy laughter, and then his back grew, his black eyes glowed, but his good smile did not change. ” In his warm home he was loved by all and his sisters spoiled him immeasurably. His friend, Udi, told him: “You will always be remembered as the small and ungrateful child among us.” He never tried to make his own mark in his environment, and despite his shyness he had a unique personal charm that immediately liked all his readers. He remained in the same inner quiet and pleasant manner that had characterized him since childhood, and his behavior and good ways were a direct consequence of the warmth he received in his home. Prior to joining the IDF he was accepted to the IAF Technical School, but he chose to go to the Armored Corps when his time came to enlist, and Yohanan was drafted into the IDF in mid-May 1971 and assigned to the Armored Corps. As part of his service, he underwent a training course and a tank courses course. He was proud of the Armored Corps and often spoke admiringly about the strength and mobility of the tanks. In the Yom Kippur War he fought with his unit on the southern front, in the northern sector of the Suez Canal. On the 10th of Tishrei 5734 (October 6, 1973), his tank was hit and the tank commander was also hit and evacuated, and Yochanan replaced the commander until his tank was hit again and he was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery Left behind his parents and four sisters, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in a letter of condolences to the bereaved family: “Yohanan was a model and courageous soldier. He was fond of his commanders and his comrades in arms. “The family donated a marble ark to the” Giborei Yisrael “Synagogue in Tel Aviv.
