Kurzweil, Eliezer

Eliezer ben Lina Leah and Moshe, was born on the 15th of Shevat, January 30th 1915 in the city of Troycht-Ling, Bavaria, Germany. He joined the anti-fascist movement in Germany and in a clash with Nazis was wounded and forced to flee to France and from there to the Czech Republic without the knowledge of his family. After wandering and studying at the Nitra Yeshiva, he came to the pioneering training program in the Czech Republic and then immigrated to Israel. From January 1944 he served as a police officer and afterwards as a commander and mentor. At the end of April 1948, during the War of Independence, he was personally called upon to assume a responsible position. He was posted to the Alexandroni Brigade and sent to command a unit in Ramat Hasharon. With this unit he protected the workers in the fields of Ramat Hakoves. On the first day of Iyar 5708, May 10, 1948, he fell while on duty. Eliezer was laid to rest in the cemetery in Kibbutz Galil Yam. The kibbutz issued a booklet in his memory.
