Kurtz, Eva (Eve)


Daughter of Sophie and David. She was born on the 5th of Iyar 5706 in the town of Vasloi in Romania, the first child of her parents after the birth of three siblings, and spent the first nine years of her childhood in Romania where she began her early childhood education in kindergarten and elementary school. With her family, where her family settled in Haifa, and Eva began to study at the Nirim Elementary School, where she continued her high school studies at the Ort vocational school named after Hannah Szenes. Eva was drafted into compulsory military service in the IDF in June 1973. After her discharge from the army she continued to work as a civilian construction clerk and after a year of work as a civilian she was drafted into a career army and served as a clerk in the office of the deputy commander of the construction unit. Sixteen years and known as a devoted and responsible soldier who performs her duties efficiently and industriously. Eva fell during her service, when she died of an illness that she suffered, on the seventeenth of Sivan 5749 (20.6.1989) and was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. She left her parents, three brothers and a sister – Moshe, Israel, Meir and Eti. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote about the love with which she played her role and her warm and sensitive personality, and that she had often helped others and performed her work with care and loyalty.
