Kubrigro, Ben-Zion


Son of Cecilia and Chaim, he was born on December 3, 1944, in Romania. In his native country, Ben-Zion completed elementary school, and continued to study until the tenth grade in high school. In 1961, he was 17 years old and immigrated to Israel with his family. The family settled in Jaffa, and Ben-Zion began to work as an electrician. In July 1963 Ben-Zion was drafted into the IDF and was assigned to serve in the Infantry, where he underwent training in basic training and was sent to professional courses. Ben-Zion was assigned as a machine gunner, and fought in the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War. Ben-Zion and his father opened a bakery, and when his father died, he inherited the family bakery and continued to manage it. In November 1981, Ben-Zion was transferred to the unit. At the beginning of October 1982, he was called up for reserve duty in Lebanon and stationed at the Military Government in Tire. On the 25th of Cheshvan 5743 (11.11.1982), a gas canister exploded in a government building. The building collapsed on its occupants. Among those killed was Ben-Zion. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Holon. He was 38 years old when he fell. Ben-Zion left behind a wife, son, daughter, mother and sister. After he fell he was promoted to Corporal.
