Kronberg, Ze’ev (Willy)


Ze’ev (Willy), son of Kamila and Yosef Kronberg, was born on December 7, 1922 in Vienna, Austria. He attended high school and in February 1939 immigrated to Israel at the age of 17. His father emigrated to Israel, but his mother could not and perished in the Holocaust. Upon his arrival in Israel, Ze’ev was sent to Ramat David to be educated in a youth company. Together with a group of friends, he moved to Ma’ale Hachamisha and there they formed a nucleus to prepare for independent kibbutz life. Ze’ev was among the devoted members of the group and always expressed his faith in the future of the country. In October 1947, Ze’ev joined the campaign and served in the Carmeli Brigade, during which he volunteered to break the siege. The convoy left Nahariya on the afternoon of 16 Adar 2, March 27, 1948, carrying 7 vehicles and 90 people to deliver supplies, At the entrance to Kabri, the convoy encountered an Arab ambush. The first armored vehicle managed to break through and reach Yechiam, but the rest of the vehicles were ambushed. Until the evening hours, and under cover of darkness, some of them managed to escape, but half of them fell in battle, Ze’ev among them. He was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya.
