Krinsky, Zvi (Igor)


Son of Zina and Ephraim, was born on the 26th of Av, August 20, 1922, in Zaporozhye, Ukraine, to a Christian father and a Jewish mother. He grew up in a Russian environment, but it was precisely his father who aroused his affection for Israel and his longing for the Land of Israel. After his father’s death, he and his mother sailed on the Altalena to Israel on July 20, 1948. Zvi joined the defenders of besieged Jerusalem immediately, and fought on Mount Zion. Zvi fell on the 10th of Tammuz 5708 (17.7.1948) while standing guard at the Russian Compound in Jerusalem, when he was hit in the neck by shrapnel from a shell fired by the Arabs. On 10.9.1950 he was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
