Krasny, Yoel (Yulik)
Yoel, son of Sarah and Yehuda Leib Krasny, was born in 1919 in the Kiev region of Russia and immigrated to Israel in 1927. After graduating from high school, he studied for four years in a teachers’ seminary and completed a degree in mechanics at the Technion in Haifa. From the age of 15 he was active in the Haganah and fulfilled his tasks with great energy, dedication and talent. Once he succeeded in capturing a well-known commander of the Arab gangs. Yoel completed a course in sabotage. He trained people in this profession and performed many important tasks. In the winter of 1948, when the War of Independence began, Yoel participated in the execution of the gangs at the Semiramis Hotel in Katamon. Shortly after his marriage to Shoshana, when he rode his motorcycle while on duty, he was killed in a clash with an armored military car on King David Street in Jerusalem, on the 9th of August 1948. He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 17th of Elul 5706 (August 30, 1950), he was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
