Krakowski, David


David, son of Mina and Yitzhak Krakowski, was born in 1919 in Poland. In 1940 he was deported to Siberia with his parents, where he remained until 1945, and during those five years he learned mechanics. His father died and his mother remained alone. At the end of the war he returned to Poland and from there he went on foot to Czechoslovakia, to the “escape route” to Palestine. When he reached the shores of the country he was deported to Cyprus and from there he tried twice to flee, but was caught by the British. He eventually arrived in Israel in 1947. In March 1948 he enlisted, served in the Golani Brigade and participated in the battles to liberate the homeland. David fell on the 22nd of Tamuz (29.7.1948) in a battle in the area of ​​Lagoon. He was buried in Mishmar Ha’emek. On 14.8.1950, he was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
