Kornhauser, Nathaniel (Sunny)
Son of Feiga and Avraham Baruch (Adolf) was born on 21 August 1927 in Debrecen, Hungary. In Hungary he studied in a government elementary school and later in Yeshiva. In March 1944, when the Nazis entered Hungary, Sonny fled to Budapest and lived there disguised as a Hungarian and devotedly tried to save his family from the quarantine camp. In this position, as a person who lived under the auspices of “Aryan documents”, he used the link between Jews imprisoned in the ghetto and the International Red Cross and succeeded in saving many lives. Many of his comrades who were also involved in this operation were caught and executed, but “Sonny” did not flinch and continued this dangerous operation. At the end of the war he searched for the family members, but only his two sisters and brother survived. He helped them with devotion and arranged for them to live in their lives. In 1945 he immigrated to Israel. He first lived in Jerusalem and then in Tel Aviv. In January 1948, he was drafted into the Palmach, served in the Harel Brigade, was one of those who gave their lives without limit, and remained in his unit until the day of his death On the day of the Battle of Katamon in Jerusalem, He was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim, and was awarded the “Katamon Conquest” award after his death.
