Korm-Abedi, Jeremiah (“Yirmi”)
Son of Mordechai and Rachel. He was born on the 28th of Av 5761 (August 28, 1951) in Ashkelon. When he was 12 years old, his family moved to Jerusalem where he was soon absorbed in the new surroundings. He completed his studies at the Geulim Elementary School and later attended a vocational school in Jerusalem. He was a member of a neighborhood youth organization, was very fond of sports and devoted himself to organizing social activities. He devoted most of his energies to organizing trips and trips and volunteering. He was full of love of life and was always the first volunteer. His spirit of volunteerism swept through his friends. Yirmi was drafted into the IDF in early May 1969 and volunteered to serve in the Paratroopers Brigade. He served as a model in his service in the army. He was always lively and active and his leadership and spirit of volunteerism were a symbol. The close ties with his apprentices and mentors were not cut off during his army service, and he continued to tell his students about his experiences in the IDF, and his actions undoubtedly increased their awareness of volunteering. One friend said (and also wrote after they fell) that he remembered one conversation with Yirmiyahu, who said: “Why am I not lucky? I have never encountered terrorists before.” On 24 May 1970, he fell in the Jordan Valley when he encountered terrorists. Was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. On the 30th anniversary of his fall, his parents and friends published a booklet in his memory called Yirmi.
