Koren, Reinhold


Koren, son of Karola and Adolf Reinhold, was born on November 11, 1911 in Wickert, Germany. He was active in the Communist Party and later moved to the Zionist youth movement “Werkloita.” At the age of 20, he went for agricultural training and worked at the Hechalutz Center in Berlin and joined the Habonim youth movement in 1937. He immigrated to Israel in 1937. He was a member of Givat Hashlosha for six years. He dedicated himself to learning the art of healing, both physical and emotional.
In 1943 he left the kibbutz with his family and moved to Givatayim, where he worked in the workshop of his father-in-law’s chemical company. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, Koren was among the first of his group to join. He was active in the battle over the Arab village of Kula and Banas and he survived although most of his comrades did not return from this battle. On January 24, 1949, Koren was critically wounded in a road accident after returning from a short vacation and died of his wounds at the Beilinson Hospital onthe 27th of Tevet, 28 January 1949. He was laid to rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak military cemetery, leaving a wife, Shlomit, a daughter and son.
