Koren, Joshua


Yehoshua, son of Yaffa and Yaakov, was born on 27.10.1943 in Kfar Yehoshua, where he studied at the elementary school and at the high school in Kfar Yehoshua. Joshua was drafted into the IDF in early February 1962 and was assigned to the infantry. He successfully completed a course for squad commanders and later completed a course for heavy mortar operators. In 1964, he took part in a course for squad commanders in the armored infantry brigade, where he served as a noncommissioned mortar officer. With his unit fought in the battles of the Six-Day War and the War of Attrition. He married his girlfriend Shoshana and together they established their home in Kfar Yehoshua. In the family’s nest their children were born Galia and Ami. During the Yom Kippur War, his unit participated in the battle against the Syrians in the Golan Heights. In the battle that took place in the Um-Butna area on the 19th of Tishrei 5734 (19.10.1973), Joshua was hit and killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kfar Yehoshua. He left behind a wife, a daughter, a son, and a father. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
