Kopel, Yosef (Yossi)


Yosef, son of David and Rebecca Kopel, was born on March 24, 1933 in Tel Aviv. He completed his studies at an elementary school in Tel Mond and later at the vocational school of the Hebrew Technion in Haifa. He belonged to the Hanoar Haoved movement. He was one of the first cadets in Gadna-Air, and was eager to enlist in the Israel Air Force and be a combat pilot, and was drafted into the IDF in August 1951. He was a pilot in the Israel Air Force. Loved by his commanders and apprentices who admired him for his dedicated work. Upon completion of compulsory service, he volunteered for the career army and served in the rank of lieutenant. After a two-year training period he was transferred to a combat squadron and also served as a guide. He was then transferred to a jet squadron. Yosef fell in the line of duty on the 23rd of Tevet (27.12.1956) and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kfar Hasidim. He left behind a wife and a daughter.
