Kolski, Yaakov


He was born in 1915. During the Second World War, he joined the French army in Syria, which was under the mandate of France, and after the French surrender he was released from the French army and immigrated to Eretz Israel unilaterally. As a driver’s guide and later joined a Hebrew company for transport “Yaal” which operated within the framework of the eighth camp. He was “a good and honest friend … doing his job with a good smile and a willingness to help others.” When he served in the Western Desert, he was injured in a road accident and the next day, on the 27th of Adar II, 5703 (3.4.1943), died of his wounds. He was laid to rest at the British military cemetery in Benghazi, Libya. He left parents in France and a brother who also served as a soldier in the British army. A list in his memory was published in the booklet “The Jewish Soldier” and his memory was also commemorated in the “Book of Volunteerism” and in the book “Yizkor” of the Jabotinsky Institute.
