Koloditzky, Yehiam

Son of Pinchas and Esther. He was born in Daughter of-Yam on December 15, 1939. Yehiam completed his studies at the Tachkemoni Elementary School in Daughter of-Yam and studied for one year at the “Shevach” vocational school. After this year he became a fisherman and began to study seamanship from work on Zim ships, because the sea attracted his Lev and therefore he was also a member of Zevulun. From July 1957 he served in the Israel Defense Forces and was discharged in 1960. After his discharge he began to work on Zim ships as a fighter and until 1967 he reached the rank of first officer on the ship “Shalom.” In September of that year he was about to begin his studies as a captain, In which he volunteered to help two of his friends in the Tel Re’im farm. On Wednesday, 12.6.1967, he fell on a landmine, the vehicle of the farm, which was engaged in discovering mines placed by the enemy forces on the access roads. These volunteers went on a mission as instructed by the IDF and only later were recognized as IDF soldiers. A committee of the Southern Command investigated the case and determined that it was a military operation since it was carried out under the Gush command. Therefore, the participants were considered to be falling in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Holon. In the summer of 1969, a sailing competition was held in Zachulun in Daughter of-Yam in memory of Yehiam, in which the best sailors participated in Israel. In his name is a marble plaque in Bat Yam and the Shevach school. The pamphlet “In Their Conscience Decree” appeared in his memory.
