Kolitz, Aviad Yitzhak


Son of Zahava and Yosef. He was born on January 24, 1981 in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. In August 1999, Aviad enlisted in the IDF, the Artillery Corps. At the end of his first class as a fighter in the battery, he embarked on a course for team commanders, which he successfully completed. At the end of the course, Aviad was assigned, at his request, to command the battery on the same team from which he emerged as a combatant. On the 11th of Nissan 5769, Aviad was seriously injured when the armored personnel carrier on which he commanded was overturned during operational activity in the Pnei Hever area near Hebron. After a week in which he fought for his life, Aviad died of his wounds at the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, at the age of 20. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl, Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
