Kobi, Shlomo


Shlomo, son of Rivka and Chaim Kobi, was born in 1928 in Tiberias. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he enlisted, served in the Givati ​​Brigade and fought in several battles. On the night of June 2-3, 1948, during the “Philistine” operation, the Givati ​​forces attacked the Egyptian alignment near the Ashdod Bridge (the “Ad Halom” bridge today). The assault was halted by heavy enemy fire and the forces were forced to retreat. The attack failed, but forced the Egyptians to prepare for the ground and halted their advance northwards. Shlomo fell on 27th of Iyar 5708 (June 5, 1948). He was laid to rest at the Warburg military cemetery. Survived by a wife and two children, parents, two brothers and five sisters.
