Knoller, Eliezer (Erwin)


Was born on January 24, 1920, in the city of Mannheim, Germany, to a traditional Zionist family who immigrated to Israel on the eve of Rosh Hashana in 1936. He was educated at the Rodges group near Petach Tikvah When he completed his studies, he joined the “Emunim” group of Hapoel Hamizrahi, and at the age of 20 he married and left the group and moved to Jerusalem, where he continued to serve as a member of the Haganah. Of the Youth Aliya, but in the meantime the Second World War broke out, Eliezer was one of the first conscripts to the British army and served in Syria, Egypt, North Africa, Italy and Germany. After four years of service, he retired from the army and went to the photography profession, which he studied in the army, raising his profession to the rank of art and at the same time completing his general education. His parents, who had just arrived in Israel, stayed at night and guarded the Haganah for military photography. On March 24, 1948, he received an order to travel to Atarot to take photographs in the Haganah’s service. The caravan was attacked on the way to Shuafat by an Arab crowd, and in the battle that took place all the convoy members were injured and Eliezer was among the fallen. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Sanhedria in Jerusalem.
