Knoll, Shimi


Shimi, son of Piuserka and Simeon Knoll, brother to Maria, was born on 26.2.1984 in Bergin, Romania (Transylvania). Educated to values ​​of honesty, diligence, telling the truth, thrift, joy and empathy for others,. Shimi felt that his mission in life was to serve in the army and that his country was the State of Israel. In Israel he was in the absorption center in Tiberias, where he found a pleasant home, learned the language, participated in trips to get to know the new homeland, and spent the first year in a dizzying sense of liberation. He also had new friends, and he was Simcha. During his first days in Israel, he found a place to work, his self-confidence was considerable, and he was proud that he could purchase various products from the money he earned; he bought a television set, a DVD player and other useful items. The money he saved from his salary was sent to his family and friends in Romania, and even to one of the needy neighbors there. At the end of December 2003, Shimi enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to the infantry, and his service in the 932 Battalion was also conducted according to his expectations, since he was naturally friendly and comfortable, easily absorbed and soon found his place. On 30 Nisan, 28.4.2006, Shimi fell in the line of duty. He was twenty-two years old. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by parents and sister Maria.
