Klein (Pleshk), Israel-Meir (Pell)

Son of Rachel and Ze’ev, was born on May 2, 1919 in the city of Dulha, in the Carpatho-Russian part of the Marmaros district (which was then part of Czechoslovakia). He studied at “Chidarim” and in elementary schools and afterward in Yeshivot. As a child he had been orphaned from his mother and since then was most of the time away from his father’s home. In 1939 the rope was returned to Hungarian rule and in 1940 was sent by the Hungarians to a labor camp. When he returned to his town, which was already under Russian rule, he decided to immigrate to Palestine. He managed to obtain a checkbook for a soldier from Eretz Israel called Pleszek. In his notebook, Yisrael Meir used to arrive in Israel in 1947 as a discharged soldier returning home from the army, and in that name he was registered in Israel and later in the Israel Defense Forces. The story of his life until his enlistment in the IDF and details of his service are unknown, he is known to have served in the “Kiryati” brigade, and only from his letter to his brother he seems to have fought out of a desire and recognition of the mission. “We must fight for a Hebrew homeland, And there is no other place in the world except for the Land of Israel. “During Operation Danny, our forces also took control of the Modi’in area, and when the second truce came into force, the area was seized. On September 24, 1948, the outpost was attacked by local Arabs with the help of the Legion, and surprisingly, while violating the truce. The defenders of the outpost were surprised and forced to retreat in light of the enemy’s superiority, and many were injured in the severe retreat. The next day, our forces attacked and conquered the outpost. In this battle he fell on the 24th of Elul 5708 (24.9.1948) and was brought to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
