He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a mother and brother. In a letter of condolence to Ilan’s mother, the Minister of Defense wrote: “On behalf of the Prime Minister, the Government of Israel and my name, please allow me to participate in your mourning by taking the late Ilan. Corporal Ilan Klapper gave his life for his homeland. “Ilan was one of the main soldiers in his company and during his service in the unit he stood out as an outstanding fighter and a decent and honest man. His relatively mature age from his company and the role he played with honors earned him recognition among all the people around him, commanders as soldiers. With the downfall of your loved one, the path of a person who volunteered for the unit was cut short to give expression to the special way in which he was educated and to the values he believed in. “
