Kislev, Ron (“Ronnie”)

He was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1969 and served in the Nahal Brigade in the Kalia settlement in the Jordan Valley. He left his mark on all his acquaintances and comrades in arms with his good manners; he would have greeted Shalom with a slightly embarrassed smile to everyone he met on his way. When he wanted to say something he would ask forgiveness first. On evenings of fun in Kalia, he was the mainstay, and even when the friends were very tired, he would begin singing to encourage the entire group. He was the driving force in all cultural activities and social life, in the context of the difficult life of occupation. Ron’s commander discovered a friend in the conversation and a staff member helping the staff plan the life and make the gray routine more interesting and cheerful. There was always a smile in his eyes and poetry on his lips. On the 20th of Sivan 5706 (June 20, 1970), he fell on the banks of the Suez Canal in an Egyptian shelling of the stronghold where he fought. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Ra’anana. The commander of the unit wrote his parents a letter of condolence, and among other things he wrote: “The fall of your son Ron on the first line that the IDF is responsible for has left the commanders and even the unit and the nucleus empty space that will not be forgotten.
