Kimchi, Moshe

The only son of Rina and Shabtai was born on 12 March 1922 in the Old City of Jerusalem. During the War of Independence, he came to the defense of Jerusalem and was known for his courtesy, dedication, and courage. Moshe rose to the rank of commander but avoided as much as possible from imposing his authority over others. He was one of the first defenders in the mountainous outpost of Rafa, in the outskirts of the Bayit Vagan neighborhood, opposite the positions of the Arab Legion and the Egyptian army, then in Khirbet el Hamama, Malha and at the “Miss-Kerry” outpost overlooking Ein Karem. After a long period of service under harsh conditions, his company was sent to a vacation as a garrison in Katamon, but the order was changed and the company was brought to a bloodless position. Each soldier was stationed at his post and was placed on a forward post. On April 27, 1948, he was buried in Sanhedria in Jerusalem and on 24.4.1952 he was transferred to the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
