Kiefer, Joseph (‘Yossi’)
Son of Reuven and Shoshana. He was born on the 16th of Av 5709 (August 11, 1949) in Hadera. He studied at the “Ahad Ha’am” elementary school and continued at the ORT vocational high school in Netanya. He chose the profession of cooks as a trend, which suited his Lev’s tendencies and related his civilian and military future. After graduating from the 11th grade, he decided to take a practical course in the field, and also to “see the world.” He boarded the passenger ship ‘Jerusalem’, worked there and visited many beaches around the world. Yossi was able to enrich his academic and professional studies by means of the most active activity in the Scouts movement that he belonged to from an early age. He was a counselor in the Bene Ya’ar tribe in Hadera, and later served as the center of the tribe for two years. Thanks to his ability and relentless energy, the Scouts became a place of extensive activity and attracted many students. They appreciated his qualities and personality and loved him, just as he loved his students and friends and offered help as much as he was asked. But most of his love and concern was reserved for his parents and his family. The profession of cooks was not only a source of livelihood for Yossi. And also enabled him to express his artistic desires. He also took advantage of his culinary knowledge to delight his family in the family celebrations. He also devoted time to painting, and especially painted posters for the Scout Club. He also wrote articles and wrote poems. Yossi was drafted into the IDF in May 1967, and was promoted to the rank of corporal, and later served in the reserves, to the rank of sergeant. After completing his service Yossi worked in various hotels in Israel. In 1971, his brother, Elyakim, fell while serving in the IDF, and then asked for a place of work near his parents’ home so that he could comfort and take care of them. He was admitted to the Dan Caesarea Hotel and took up the post of deputy kitchen manager. Was set by the Ministry of Tourism to go on to study in Switzerland. But before he left, the Yom Kippur War broke out. Yossi was recruited and participated in battles for the Golan Heights. In May 1975 he changed his place of work and was appointed director of the kitchen at the Hadassa youth institution near Kfar Vitkin, but he did not get the opportunity to become involved in a place that would allow him to become a close associate of educational work among young people He was called to active reserve duty, and on 21 June 1975 he was killed at the military cemetery in Hadera, when he was 26 years old and left behind his parents and two brothers.
