Khoury, Girrer


Girer, son of Giselle (Atirse) and Leon, was born on 27.3.1955 in Tunis and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1963. The family settled in Beer-Sheva and Gerer began studying at the school Elementary school in the name of Y. Son of-Zvi. After graduating from elementary school, he began studying frameworks at the “Hanichim” school and was ordained as a locksmith. Girrer was a pleasant boy and very much liked by his friends. Despite his shyness, he was able to establish deep friendships and was acceptable to his friends in school. He loved music, listened to music records and radio programs, and tried not to miss opportunities to dance and spend time with his friends. Girrer was a loyal and devoted son to his parents and his relations with his parents, especially with his mother, were a relationship of respect, appreciation and love. From his childhood, he dreamed of joining the IDF and serving his country faithfully, while in the time he remained until his induction into the IDF, he worked in the Natan camp as their instrument. He was very successful in his work, and for two years he was successful and loved and accepted by everyone, and even progressed a lot in his work. Girrer was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in 1973 and assigned to the Artillery Corps, where he was assigned to an artillery unit in the north of Israel, where he was a disciplined and responsible soldier. In the battle that took place on the 7th of Tishrei 5734 (October 7, 1973), Girer was injured and fell, and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva, leaving behind his parents, two brothers and a sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Gerer fell in the battle for the existence of the State of Israel, which was facing annihilation. He and his friends defended the country’s borders with courage and courage. Few against many were – and became enemies. Private Khoury Girer was an outstanding soldier, dedicated and faithful in routine and battle life. He was loved and loved by his friends and commanders alike “
