Kells, David


He was born in 1914 in Sarny, Volhynia. From his youth he was active in movements connected with the Land of Israel. David immigrated to Israel in 1933 and was one of the first builders and founders of the Tel Aviv Port. At the outbreak of World War II, David accepted the call of the national institutions and was one of the first to join the British army. He was stationed in the engineering corps, reached the rank of corporal and was sent with his unit to Europe, where he was captured by the Germans. During the period of his captivity a malignant disease was discovered. He was released from captivity and arrived at a military hospital in Haifa, where he died on 10 Tishrei, September 13, 1945. David was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Haim cemetery, leaving a wife and a son. He is mentioned in the “Book of Volunteerism” and the Yizkor Book of the Jabotinsky Institute.
