Kellez, Zvi

Was born on December 26, 1920 in the city of Lachuia, Poland, and attended high school. Immigrated to Israel on July 19, 1936. On the eve of his arrival he joined the Haganah. In 1937 he was drafted into the Guard Corps and defended the Sharon settlements. When Wingate’s Night Squads were established, in order to fight the Arab gangs, Zvi joined them. In 1940, after serving in the Haifa police, he enlisted in the British Army and served in the Royal Air Force until 1946. After his discharge from the army he worked in Tel Aviv and Lod Airport. At the beginning of the War of Independence, he enlisted in the army and participated in escorting caravans on the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem road, with his base in Kiryat Anavim. Recently, he accompanied a convoy to Gush Etzion and remained in Gush Etzion for lack of the possibility of returning to Jerusalem. Zvi was killed in the bloody battle on the day of the fall of Kfar Etzion on May 13, 1948. On November 17, 1949, he was transferred to the military cemetery at Har- Herzl in Jerusalem
