Keller, Eli Y.A.


Eli, (Issachar-Eliezer), son of Tzipora and Ze’ev, was born on September 19, 1952 in Jerusalem. He studied at Netivot Elementary School in Be’er Sheva. Eli was active in the student council of the school and was active in the Gadna, where he reached the rank of commander. He was a member of the “Scouts” movement in Haifa, in the tribe of Shomati in the Carmel. Eli was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early October 1970. After completing his basic training course, he entered the pilots’ courseWhen the Yom Kippur War broke out, Eli and his battalion in Sinai served as the commander of a tank division and participated in the braking battles, according to his commander, who excelled in his bravery and devotion and until his last moments clung to his mission. On the evening of the 11th of Tishrei 5734 (7.10.1973) Eli was hit by a shrapnel in the back. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to lieutenant.
