Kehat, Ami (Amishalom)


Ami, son of Ilana and Yehoshua, was born on June 26, 1953 in Safed. He studied at the elementary school “Ahad Ha’am” and at the general high school in Hadera. Ami, was named after one of the defenders of his hometown, who fell in the War of Independence. He was a talented student. He was active in the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement and went to the Nahal as a member of the “Sorek” nucleus of this movement. He devoted himself to working among young people and was a counselor for “marginal youth” in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Mugharra. He devoted much time and energy to this work and achieved many achievements. Ami was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1971, and initially served in the Nahal Brigade as a member of the Nuclear Group and was later assigned to the Artillery Corps. He successfully completed professional courses in the Corps and was a gunner with a mobile artillery battery. After the liberation, he planned to settle with his fellow members of Kibbutz Revadim in the northern Negev. In the Yom Kippur War, Ami fought as a gunner with a mobile artillery battery, which participated in the battles in the Golan Heights. On October 17, 1973, he was hit and killed by Syrian anti-tank fire on his dike. He was brought to eternal rest in the Hadera cemetery. Survived by his parents and two sisters.
