Kebaz, Abraham (Mustafa)

Avraham (Mustafa), son of Zahava and Chaim Kebaz, was born in 1924 in Damascus, Syria and in 1941 he immigrated to Israel via the Syrian border. His family settled in Haifa, then in Afikim and then he moved to the youth company in Shfeya. Avraham was active in the ranks of the Haganah. After the War of Independence, he was one of the first volunteers to serve before he was called in and his two younger brothers followed him. The Golani brigade participated in most of the battles for the protection of the Jordan Valley and for the liberation of the Lower Galilee. Avraham was hit by a bullet from the enemy planes as he left his front post to seek water for his friends, who were starving and thirsty because of the enemy’s long assault. He fell on 6 Tamuz, 13.7.1948. He was buried in Kfar Tavor. On 22.6.1950, he was laid to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
