Kazaz, Ephraim


Ephraim, son of Matana and Ovadia Kazaz, was born on October 10, 1926 in Tiberias and lived in the Achva neighborhood, where he was forced to work, to earn his bread and support his family. When the War of Independence broke out, he was drafted into a local unit and took part in operations in the Old City of Tiberias, where he joined the ranks of the Givati ​​Brigade, and fought in the battles for Ashdod and Bet-Afa. On July 18, 1948, a day before the second truce, Operation “Death to the Intruder” took place, in an attempt to break through the Negev, and his unit was assigned to conquer the village of Beit Afa. On the 18th of Tammuz 5708 (18.7.1948), the day before the second truce took effect, a “Death to the Intruder” operation was carried out, in an attempt to break through the Negev. His unit was assigned to conquer the village of Beit Afa. His cousin, Meir, was wounded in the battle. When Ephraim heard his cries, he turned his head toward him and immediately was also hit by a bundle of bullets and died. On the 16th of Shevat 5711 (23.1.1951) he was put to rest at the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery. During the year a son was born to his brother and named after him – Ephraim.
