Kaufman, Albert
Son of Hanna and Yosef, was born in 1922 in Romania. He was an educated man with a high school education, who had acquired knowledge of most of the languages of Central and Eastern Europe. He worked as a plumber and an electrician. During the Second World War he found the way to the Russian army and served in the Corps of Engineers with the rank of sergeant. After the liberation he went on the “Bericha route” and arrived in Palestine via Cyprus on October 15, 1947. Until the outbreak of the War of Independence he worked in his profession. At the outbreak of the war he volunteered to guard Nesher. The group, which he was responsible for, called him “Daddy” because of the way he treated them and cared for them. He had a well-developed public sense and was Simcha to help others – and his qualities were conspicuous during the war no less than in peacetime. Albert served in the Carmeli Brigade and took part in the attack on Birwa after it fell into the hands of the Kaukji forces. This battle fell, in fact, during the second truce, on the 17th of Sivan 5708 (24.6.1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya. Abroad he left his parents and daughter-in-law, who was expecting them to immigrate.
