Kaudler, Aryeh (Lonek)

Aryeh, son of Bracha and Menahem (Lonek) Kaudler, was born on January 30, 1916, in the city of Yaroslav, Poland, to an assimilated family. He immigrated to Israel as a student and was accepted to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1937. After a year he moved to Kibbutz Akiva in Hadera and was responsible for the hidden weapons. He married Renee and moved to Tel Aviv in 1942, where twins were born to them. He devoted himself to his family. Aryeh was drafted into the “Golani” and went to work in the vicinity of Lubia and Sejera as a first machine gunner, and was very good at drawing and topographical orientation. Aryeh was honest and cheerful and liked by his friends. In the attack on Lajun, he worked his machine gun tirelessly. When he felt that the enemy was approaching from the other side, Aryeh turned to the second machine gunner to tell him to open fire and raised his head slightly. Immediately a bullet hit him. He was transferred to the hospital in Afula and died on the 23rd of Tamuz, July 30th 1948. Aryeh was buried in Mishmar Ha’emek. On the 21st of Tammuz 5710 (6.7.1950) he was transferred to eternal rest to the Nahalat Yitzhak military cemetery.
