Katz, Yeshayahu-Yehuda

Yeshayahu-Yehudah (Joshua, Shuka), son of Frieda and Mendel, was born on 15.11.1949 in Tel Aviv. He attended the “Neve Yam” elementary school on Carmel Beach and later completed his studies at the Galim High School. Shuka was a good student, industrious and persistent and loved by his teachers and friends. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement, was a tour enthusiast and participated in marches, loved music and played the accordion. He was a loyal friend, kind and kind. When his teachers asked him to teach weak students and help them with tutoring, he was always willing to help. A lot worked with them until they knew their Talmud and its teachers praised him for knowing how to do his work faithfully. He was modest and a little shy, humble and loving simplicity. He was friendly and welcoming with everyone. He always wanted to see all the positive and the desirable in it. Yeshayahu was drafted into the IDF in early November 1968 and volunteered for the “Shaked” reconnaissance unit, after completing basic training in a scuba diving course and a course for infantry corps commanders, and eventually completed a course for infantry officers and infantry commanders. He was an excellent student and was awarded a high grade (95). During his service he was assessed as an outstanding commander, and as an excellent officer and entrepreneur, he was always responsible and devoted to his job, took care of his soldiers and was loved and loved by his commanders and subordinates. After his discharge he went to work at El Al as a security officer and prepared to study economics and statistics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . In May 1973, he was wounded in Amsterdam in a gunfight with bandits, and stood with the plane’s crew in the waiting room of one of the hotels and was preparing to leave for the airport, when robbers came in and shot in all directions. He was seriously wounded, and was considered dead in the intensive care and surgery, and was saved from death, and after he recovered, he returned to his job in the airline company. In the battle that took place on October 16, 1973, on the banks of the Suez Canal, Yeshayahu was injured and fell. When he rescued the fourth casualty he was hit and killed on the spot. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Neve Yam. He was survived by a mother and two brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to captain.
