Katz, Yehuda


Yehuda, the son of Dov Katz, was born on 22 June 1928. He joined the IDF and belonged to the Alexandroni Brigade, participated in various battles and reached the rank of sergeant. Finally he was accepted to a pilot course, the second held in Israel. And ended it as a navigator. He was promoted to lieutenant in the Air Force. On the 26th of Av, 5703 (August 7, 1953), he left for a position and did not return. A monument in his memory was erected in the missing-persons section of the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left a wife and a son. In 1986, parts of a Mosquito plane were found in the sea in the Hof Hacarmel area. After inspection, it became clear that these were parts of the plane of Yehuda Katz and Eliezer Reisner, who crashed in the sea in 1953. After extensive searches of the seabed of the Department of Underwater Archeology at the Israel Antiquities Authority and in cooperation with the Navy, the bodies of Yehuda Katz Eliezer Reisner On October 30, 2001, Yehuda was brought to eternal rest in a military ceremony at the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery.
