Katz, Nissan


Nissan ben Bella and Eliahu, born in Kibbutz Kfar Hahoresh, was born on April 18, 1948 in Ra’anana, Nissan was drafted into the IDF in late August 1967. After completing basic training he was assigned to the Armored Corps, where he advanced in a tank commanders course, an officers’ course, and an officer training course. To the great prestige of his commanders, when in June of 1970 he rescued the men of his platoon from an ambush of the Egyptians and even managed to destroy the enemy armored personnel carrier. Nissan was a good officer and entrepreneur. In his warm attitude to his soldiers, he gained their hearts and managed to operate them efficiently. In his unit he was recognized as a dedicated and responsible officer with a determined will and a professional who served as an example to his soldiers and was admired by his commanders. At the end of August 1970, Nissan was discharged from compulsory army service and accepted to study at the Technion, where he was very successful, his grades were excellent, and at the request of one of the lecturers he served as an extraordinary assistant for one summer semester, And in the Suez Canal, Nissan was exposed in the turret during the attack, and during the Yom Kippur War, Nissan participated in the battles of containment and break-up against the Egyptians on the Sinai front. Missiles, in order to guide and rescue the members of his platoon from a minefield, which they found themselves in. He was hit and killed during the operation. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by a wife and daughter, parents and sister.
