Katz, Abraham
Son of Fania and Shmuel was born on the 18th of Sivan in the city of Tremez, Turkmenistan, Russia. In 1934, as a child, the family immigrated to Israel via Syria. When he arrived in Israel, he was caught and spent two months in prison in Bethlehem. Without a father, when the mother is busy with the economics of two sons, he spent his years in Tel Aviv until he was bar-mitzvah. Afterward, he moved to Haifa All his spare time was given to the Maccabee youth movement and soon proved his ability in various sports and won his honors. In his concern for his mother he went to Gaza and worked in construction in British army camps. In December 1947, with the outbreak of the War of Independence, he left with the first conscripts to the Negev and spent seven months there. Where he took part in many battles as part of a Palmach regiment in the Negev Brigade, as an sabotage expert, and spent three months in Be’er Ya’akov, where he first served as a battalion sergeant for another battalion. On October 18, 1948, he was killed in the explosion of a grenade in Kastina and brought to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
