Katvi, Abraham (Nachshon)
Born in 1929 in the city of GoeSon of, Yemen, his father died when he was 7 years old and his mother remained with seven young children, and in the afternoons he helped his brother in various jobs at a candy store. At the age of 15, he traveled with orphans of his age to the great city of Eden in order to find a living there, and lived in Aden for two years until the arrival of the Jewish Agency emissaries. In Israel, he lived in Tel Aviv and Rishon Letzion, and earned his living in mosaic work, where he enlisted in the Palmach and in the War of Independence served in the Yiftah Brigade, fought with His comrades fought to conquer the Arab part of Safed. After five years after the first failure, the force attacked three key positions in the city, one after the other, with direct attacks on fortified positions in built-up areas. It was a difficult battle for the fortress, whose very steep rise required a great deal of effort, and that night the three key positions were conquered after a difficult battle. On May 10, 1948 Avraham was hit by an Arab sniper bullet and killed. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Safed. In the monument to the defenders of Safed located at the entrance to the Citadel Garden, Abraham’s name is also inscribed among the fourteen names inscribed on the board.
