Katani, Yaacov

Jacob, son of Rachel and Rachamim, was born in Jerusalem on November 14, 1953. He studied at the “Kiyach” elementary school for boys and later went on to study at the “Ein Kerem” agricultural school in Jerusalem, where he completed his studies at the ORT vocational high school in Jerusalem. He was a quiet student, gentle and disciplined, and always volunteered to help his friends who had trouble preparing the lessons. His friends told him that he was very honest, conscientious and serious about his approach to life, and was a devoted and loyal son all his life and caring for his family.
Yaakov was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of November 1971 and was assigned to the Ordnance Corps, where he was trained as a mechanic and was sent to serve in one of the workshops of the Ordnance Corps in the central region. Yaakov gained many friends among his comrades in the unit, and his commanders praised him and noted his good behavior and his meticulousness in carrying out all the tasks he was assigned to, and during his service in the IDF, he tried not to worry his parents. He visited the house frequently and made sure to phone them. He never complained about difficulties, so as not to upset his family or even tell about his accomplishments, because he did not boast. He always said repeatedly: “I found my place in the IDF.” When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he served with his unit members in maintaining the vehicles of the forces that fought on the Sinai front, on October 11, 1973, He was brought to eternal rest in the Jerusalem cemetery, leaving behind his parents and two brothers, after his fall he was promoted to the rank of sergeant
