Katani, David (Guad)

Katani, David (Guad)

Son of Azat and Maazar. He was born on the 9th of Cheshvan, November 1, 1949, in Persia. He was about two years old when he immigrated to Israel. He attended elementary school, and studied at the ORT high school, and studied mechanical frameworks. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement, and was drawn to sports. In May 1967, he was drafted into the IDF. During his service, he proved himself to be an outstanding soldier in every position he was assigned. Despite his rank (corporal), he served as a sergeant, because of his strong personality and his courage. He was always the first in operations, and an example of his brother-in-arms. His commanders and friends loved and admired him. He was still in compulsory service, when David fell in combat. This was on the 26th of Tammuz, July 22, 1968. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Ashkelon. The commander of his unit wrote to his family, in the name of the unit’s soldiers and commanders, that “David was an outstanding commander in his unit, loved by his comrades and subordinates, who was the first to help his comrades, and volunteered for any job that required courage, and willingness to sacrifice.” His name was memorialized in the book “Yad LaNoflim – Bnei Ashkelon” published by the municipality.
