Karsenty, Yehuda (Yehudah)

Yehuda (Yehudah), son of Sarah and Aharon, was born in Rosh Pina on April 4, 1954. He studied at the elementary school in Rosh Pina, at the “Amal” school in Safed and later continued his studies He worked in the “Amal” school in Kiryat Shmona, where he studied mechanics, and he liked to dismantle instruments and assemble them, examine and examine the innards of each tool. His great love was nature, the expanses and the Galilee, and he often traveled alone, accompanied by friends, on foot or by horse or donkey, and there was always a song on his lips His teacher told him: “He knew every corner hidden and hidden in Rosh Pina, and toured the Galilee, in its wadis, in the rocks and mountains. He was familiar with the names of the plants found in his way and in their nature, and loved to collect mushrooms. He was always working on fixing everything that needed repair. If you asked to find the fulfillment of the commandment of love of others, in Judea you found it. The first one was to reach out to help a friend and a stranger. “Yehuda was very fond of animals and collected abandoned dogs and cats, and he was a sports fan who liked soccer and was a member of the Hapoel team in Safed. He loved his family, was very devoted to his parents and had great respect for them, and Yehuda was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces. In early November 1972 he volunteered to serve in the Armored Corps. After completing his basic training, he completed a course in the “Improved Centurion” tank. His commanders loved him and said that he was a devoted soldier and a model friend. He was proud of his unit and was very concerned about the health of his tank. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, his unit was sent to participate in stopping the Syrian forces’ attack on the Golan Heights. On the first day of the fighting, on October 6, 1973, Judah fell in a battle near Hoshenia and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Rosh Pina, leaving behind a father, mother and three brothers. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Yehuda served in an armored unit, and was loyal to his comrades and commanders, and performed all his duties with loyalty and devotion.” The local council of Rosh Pina published a pamphlet in memory of the local people who fell in the war, and Yehuda among them.
