Karp, Mordechai
Mordechai-Martin (Muki), Ben Blanka and Ferdinand, was born on July 2, 1954, in Transylvania, Romania, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1964. Mordechai was drafted into the IDF in early May 1972 and volunteered for the Armored Corps. After basic training, he trained in the Patton tank course and was trained as a tank loader. In his unit, everyone recognized him as a responsible and dedicated soldier who did everything he was assigned with precision and will. He was awarded the Operational Service Award for his part in the operational activities. During the Yom Kippur War, Mordechai participated in the braking battles on the Sinai front. On the 7th of Tishrei 5740 (October 7, 1973) Mordechai fell in a battle near the city of Qantara, north of the axis of “Usha”. He was traveling in a rescue armored personnel carrier, and when he returned from the rescue of tanks that had been stuck, the Egyptians hit him from an ambush and he was killed on the spot, he was considered missing and then a burial site was declared unknown. Survived by his parents and two brothers, he was promoted to the rank of corporal.
